CHILDREN'S DISPLAY PARADE THROUGH TOWN [by TKLEGKArH —OWN COHRKSPONDKNT] TE AROH.A, Friday The To Arolia Now Yonr carnival opened to-day with the children's section and fancy dress parnde, which took place in ideal weather. Headed by the Te Arolia Pipe Band, t.he children paraded down the main street to the Herries Memorial Park, where some 500 children gathered. There was a largo crowd of spectators. The judging resulted as follows: -Group (Dutch windmill): D. Flowerday. N. Cross and J. Lloyd. Decorated pram: Joan Land, 1; Joan Ritchie, 2; Coleen Petersen, 3. Decorated cycle: Joan Darby, 1; Doreen Rnckham, 2; Audrey Curtis, 3. Poster costume: Nola Slight, 1; Barbara Land, 2. Frog club special: Pat Fryer. Carnival specials: Margaret Ritchie, Margaret Ericson. Most original: Jack Price, I; Kevin Curran', 2; M. Colson, 3. Window spotting competition: Kevin Curran, 1; Donald Thomas, 2. Trolley derby: S, and L. Willowes, 1; 11. and M. Gray, 2. Best boy: A If. Land, 1; Terry Darby, 2; J. Prince, 3. Best girl: June Prince, 1; Olwyn Ericson, 2. Over 00 entries were received for the baby show, which created wide interest. Awards wore as follows: —Under nine months: Colleen Hunger, 1; Colin Campbell, ,2; Mary Magill, 3. Specials: Kay Baioy and Albert Manson. Nine to 18 months: Keith Hill, 1; Lewis Baker, 2; Wallace Martin, 3. Specials: Heather Manson and Beverley Baker. Maori award: Baby Turner.
