ROYAL AIR FORCE

DEATH ROLL IN 1938 . 223 TO DECEMBER 26 Independent Cable Service LONDON, Dec. 20 The death roll in the Royal Air Force in 1938 has been greater than in any year since 1920. So far it totals 223 in 110 crashes, including 83 crashes and 101 deaths in Britain, 20 crashes and 46 deaths overseas, and 12 crashes with 16 deaths at reserve Hying schools, compared with a total of 93 accidents with 1136 deaths in 1937. It is stated that the heavier death roll is due to increased activity of members of the force in all weathers, faster machines and night-Hying pilots' errors. NEW ZEALANDERS' POSTS LONDON, Dec. 20 The latest list issued by the Air Ministry gives the names of 14 New Zealanders resident in England who have been appointed to short commissions as acting-pilots in the Royal Air Force.
