FIFTY YEARS AGO
NORTH SHORE POPULAR Mainly on account of its many fins beaches the North Shore district began to assume great popularity half a century ago. The following extract, is from the New Zealand Herald of December 28, 1888: "Things are looking brighter at the North Shore than for some time past, and good prices are being brought y houses and land. At the Lake the is a good deal of property cliangi g hands. It is a pity that the residents do not come to some arrangement build a wharf, as the ferry steanie would soon open up both a cargo a passenger traffic. The other day North Shore Ferry Company "Advertised a trip to the Lake, and 300 passeng went bv the steamer which was pr vided. A second steamer could to™ been filled had it been made avails • showing that there is a tendency the part of the public, to trave the North Shore direction.
