NORTH SHORE CARNIVAL TWELVE BOATS TAKE PART A fishing competition was hold nt Cheltenham. Beach yesterday as part of tho 10-days sports and bench carnival. Twelve boats assembled at the bench at 5) a.m. and, after being inspected, set off together for the fishing grounds, bounded by n line drawn from the Masonic Hotel, Devonport, to Oral>ei Wharf and from Nnngitoto beacon to Taknpuna Bench. Tho boats were required to be back at the starting point by 1 p.m. • Seven boats were back at the bench on time and nil bad good catches of fish. The contest for the largest weight of commercial fish wns won by a dinghy manned by Messrs. J. Stokes, K. McGuinness and A K. They lauded a mixed haul, which included n stingray 6ft. across. Also included were 12 schnapper and two kingfish. One of the kingfish, which weighed 2Hlb., won the section for the largest fish. The prize for the largest schnnpper went to a dinghy manned by Messrs. \Y. Stewart. W. Benson and ,T. Catchpole. this fish weighing 6Jlb. Actually the largest schnapper wns one of 91b.. caught by Messrs. A. 15. Mnnro and H. Buchanan, who. however, arrived hack at the bench five minutes after time bad been declared. A large crowd was present at Cheltenham Bench again Inst night when games and dancing were held.
