EXCHANGE £204,000 LOWER ADVANCES £15,585,000 HIGH HOLIDAY NOTE ISSUE [£Y TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursday Tho Roservo Bank return for the week ended Monday, December 19, was issued to-night. The statement is balanced at £27,161,668, or £1,196,001 more than at tho close of the provious week. After the rise of £371,000 shown in tho provious return, tho sterling exchange reserve has fallen by £2015,936. Advances to tho Stato, other than to tho Marketing Department, have increased by £1,040,000 to £10,400,000. Marketing advances aro £172,000 higher, and tho aggrogato of tho two is now £15,584,588. Bills discounted have increased by £200,000 to a total of £500,000. The note issue at £16,298,740 is £1,102,978 higher than tho wek before, tho level being a record in tho history of tho lleservo Bank. Government deposits are £490,637 lower, while the holdings of tho trading bunks have increased by £710,990. Sturmor apples and Australian Valencia oranges, however, show a decrease in value. In the vegetable section cabbages aro dearer, but cauliflowers are down in price. Carrots are also down Id a bunch, being now priced at 2d. There is practically no demand for mushrooms, which are bringing about 3s 6d per lb. Other rates are unaltered.
