COOL TEMPERATURES SOUTH-WESTERLY WINDS The weather report and forecast foe New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows: —Pressure is rising very slowly over New Zealand. An anti-cyclone i.s located over the western Tasman Sea and is moving slowly eastward. A tropical cyclone is centred between Fiji and Tonga and is moving south-east. The forecast is for south-west to southerly winds, strong at-first in some exposed positions over the North Island, but for the most part light to moderate. Seas rather rough at first, but decreasing on the west coast, and elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to fresh southwest to southerly winds and rather rough, but moderating, seas. Scattered local rains are still probable, moro especially from the Wellington Province southward, with thunder and hail in places, but fair to fine practically generally later. Temperatures cool, but rising later. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST MAINLY FAIR TO FINE The Government meteorologist issued to the Hkrald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to fresh south-west to southerly winds. A few isolated showers at first, but the weather otherwise is likely to be fair to fine. Temperatures cool but rising. Seas rather rough on the west coast, slight to moderate on the east coast. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —The day was fine and cloudy, with a fresh wind from the south-west. The maximum temperature was 70 degrees and the minimum 59 degrees. Barometric pressure was fairly steady. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 29.75 in, Midnight, Wednesday .. 2Q.Boin, Wellington.—The day was mainly fine, but threatening in the afternoon, thunderstorms being visible in the distance. A light northerly breeze turned to a southerly in the afternoon. The temperature was moderate. At 3.30 p.m. tho barometer read 29.539 in. Christchurch.—The weather was again cloudy and unsettled with intermittent rain, which became heavy in the evening. Winds were light and variable. The maximum temperature was 61.2 •degrees. The barometer rose slowly to 29.52 in. at 5 p.m.

Dunedin.—There was rain in the morning, but the weather improved later and the sun shone in the late afternoon.
