INCIDENT IN SHOP GIRL ADMITS OFFENCE [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday A girl of 18 appeared before Mr. S. Jj. Patersou, S.M., in the Police Court to-day charged with stealing a frock valued at £4 15s, the property of Hooker and Kingston, Limited. • A statement made by accused was read, in it she said that her father gave her £2 to complete the payment on a frock. She lost the money and, as she was afraid to return home without the frock or the money, she took a costume from Hooker and Kingston, Limited, placing it under her cape. Detective-Sergeant J. Thompson said that accused had lost her mother and looked after her brother and sister. She was a good girl in the home, and had not been in trouble before. Her father had said the girl had no need to bo afraid of advising him of the loss of the £2. The magistrate said the case was not an ordinary one of shoplifting. He ordered accused to come up for sentence if callod upon within six months Her name was suppressed.
