TROUT FISHING
ADVEIiSE CONDITIONS SOME RIVERS FLOODED GOOD LAKE TAUPO CATCHES [BY telegraph —OWN correspondent] ROTORUA. Wednesday In his fortnightly report on trout fishing in the Rotorua and Tnupo districts the conservator of fish and game,, Mr. A. Kenu, states that as a result of the adverse conditions very few anglers have been out in most districts during the period. In the Rotorua area a fair number of fish have been taken in the Ngongotaha and Utiihina Streams, while the Kaituna River below and above the Okerc I'alls has fished fairly well, particularly with the dry fly in the evenings. Nino fish of good condition were taken in an hour one evening on the fly in Cherry Bay. three being landed on the yellow matuka ,and the remainder 011 the imitation green beetle fly. \ The Ray of Plenty rivers have been practically unfishable owing to floodiug and discolouring, but the Waikato has fished fairly well. Anglers fishing below the Huka Falls in the evenings have been taking up to seven and eight fish, some of up to 71b. Of the 14 days at Taupo 11 have been wet anil storinv and fishing camps were practically deserted. Fair bags have been taken above the Huka Falls, particularly in the evening. Most of the trout caught in the lake itself were taken on the 6poon. One party of four rods fishing in Western Bay for four clays took 110 fish, averaging 4Jib., with the heaviest 6Jlh.
A fish of 121b. 2oz. was landed at AYliakaipo Reef by Mr. E. Fraser, while harling with a green-bodied black-tail fly. Motuopa and Motutere Point, nt the southern end of the lake, have fished fairly well, but flooding in the Tongariro has put this river out of action. The fish in the river are improving, but are not yet in the best of condition.
