£108,772 POWER PLAN

DUNEDIN EXTENSIONS SQOQFT. TUNNEL INVOLVED GUARDING AGAINST SHORTAGE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] s DUNEDIN, Tuesday The City Council last night approved important extensions to the Waipori power works, including the construction of a new 5000 ft. tunnel and the installation of two 3000kw. units at a cost of £108,772. Mr. W. Cameron, chairman of the power committee, stated that the most cogent reason for proceeding with tho scheme was that the engineer feared a power shortage in 1940-41. For one thing it was possible that, with bigger resources, tho council might be able to j help the Government out sometimes.
