£108,772 POWER PLAN
DUNEDIN EXTENSIONS SQOQFT. TUNNEL INVOLVED GUARDING AGAINST SHORTAGE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] s DUNEDIN, Tuesday The City Council last night approved important extensions to the Waipori power works, including the construction of a new 5000 ft. tunnel and the installation of two 3000kw. units at a cost of £108,772. Mr. W. Cameron, chairman of the power committee, stated that the most cogent reason for proceeding with tho scheme was that the engineer feared a power shortage in 1940-41. The Government had a riglit in an emergency to discontinue the power supply to them. He was convinced the Government would welcome this move' to extend their own source of power. For one thing it was possible that, with bigger resources, tho council might be able to j help the Government out sometimes.
