ELECTIONS IN POLAND
MUNICIPAL. CENTRES SETBACK FOR GOVERNMENT ' WARSAW, Dec. 19 Provisional results of the municipal elections in 52 Polish towns and cities, in which members of the Opposition participated, show substantial Opposition gains at the expense-of the Government National Unity camp, which obtained less than 25 per cent of tho votes in most of the centres except Warsaw. Anti-Government majorities were formed by combinations of Socialist and Jewish' patties. Tho elections were the first under the new electoral law, which is more democratic. Members of the Opposition boycotted tho Parliamentary elections and now claim that the municipal elections were a national plebiscite by which the Government was defeated.
