THE YOUNG CONTINGENT PARTY AT HOSPITAL TOYS FOR YOUNG PATIENTS To wind up their fortnightly visits to the children's at the Auckland Hospital the hospital circle of the Young Contingent of the Victoria League held Christmas celebrations in the wards yesterday morning for about 70 girls and boys. Paper caps, balloons of all shapes and sizes, squeakers and toys were distributed, and strawberries and cream, which were kept until tcatinie, wore much appreciated. During the year competition had been held among the girls for fancy work, drawing and letter writing. Prizes were S'esented to Ethel Clarke and Shirley ill for excellence in these subjects. Appreciation of the happiness they had brought was shown to tlie president of the Victoria League, Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane, the organiser of the Young Contingent, Mrs. L. S. Riekerby, and the conveners of the hospital circle, Miss Jessica Baxter and Miss Molly Wright. A floral spray was presented to Mrs. Macfarlane by Valerie Crump, and Mrs. Rickerby, received two covered coathangers from Shirley Hill. Ethel Clarke presented coathangers to Miss Baxter and Miss Clarke, the former also receiving an attractive hand-painted calendar from Shirley Hill. Among those present were: —The lady superintendent of the Auckland Hospital, Miss E. M. Nutsev, Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane, Mrs. L. S. Pickerby, Mf s - Erne Adams, Miss Jessica Baxter. Miss Molly Wright, Miss Marjorie Brett, Miss Hetta Gunson, Miss Barbara Stedman. Miss Marjorie Drvden, Miss Louie de Boissiere, Miss Phyllis Mackesy, Miss Joan Boardman and Miss Barbara Court.

VISIT TO KNOX HOME EVER-READY COMMITTEE An enjoyable Christmas party was given at the Knox Home yesterday by the Ever-Ready Committee of the Victoria League. A programme was presented by the members and after tea, books and gifts were distributed to the patients. Assisting with the programme were Mrs. S. Hobday, Miss Patricia Matthew, and Mr. Geoffrey Watkins. who sang, Miss Joan Lee, who danced a Highland Fling, Miss Pcggi Cruickshank and Miss Casey, who recited, and Miss Black and Mrs. Massicks, who sang duets and carols. Pianoforte solos were played by Mrs. Gray, *who also acted as accompanist. At the conclusion of the programme one of the patients thanked the members of the Ever-Ready Committee for the entertainment. The president of the league, Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane. who replied, was presented by Mrs. Hobday with a bouquet in appreciation of her help during the year. Among those present were: —-Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane, Mrs. L. S.
