LAUNCH STRATHMORE

ARRIVAL AT WELLINGTON INCIDENTS ON THE VOYAGE TWO STORMS ENCOUNTERED [by telegraph —own correspondent] "WELLINGTON. Tuesday After a passage of four and a-half days from Auckland the 4oft. motorlaunch Strathmore, which has been purchased by Messrs. C. P. Bryan and A. Todd, of Wellington, arrived here this morning. The trip down, apart from a couple of storms, was without incident. Leaving Auckland late last Thursday night, the Strathmore went to Tauranga and from there to Pukenui Bay, in Mahia Peninsula, where she sheltered for six hours from a southwest gale. The fore hatch was washed away and a fair amouut of water yas shipped in consequence, but the pumps were able to cope with this. A temporary hatch was built and no further damage was suffered on the trip. The next call was at Napier, and after refuelling the Strathmore again put to sea. A heavy south-east gale was met, and she put back to Napier until it subsided. From then on the weather was fine, although the crew complained of the temperature in the vicinity of Wellington. Visibility in Cook Strait was at times limited to 200 yds. The men who brought the Strathmore down are Messrs. A. R. Clarke (Auckland), J. A. Gresham and H. M. Griffiths (Tauranga),.
