"THAT CERTAIN AGE"
COMEDY FOR ST. JAMES' The success of the girl soprano, Deanna Durbin, in such films as "100 Men and a Girl" and "Mad About Music," is repeated in her latest production, "That Certain Age," which is to be tjhe. Christmas attraction at St. James' .Theatre, commencing on Friday. From a position of obscurity when she appeared in her first film. "Three Sfli'art Girls," Miss Durbin has risen to be one of the foremost and most popular'flayers on the screen today, ner entertaining acting, charming personality and bright singing all contributing to her success. Supporting her in the present film is an outstanding cast of players including Melvyn Douglas, Jackie Cooper, Irene Rich' and John Halliday. Miss Durbin appears as Alice Fullerton. the daughter of a wealthy newspaper proprietor m New York. Alice and her friends have decided to produce a play in her father's summer house when Mr. Fullerton upsets their plans by announcing' that one of his foreign correspondents, ; Vincent Bullitt, portrayed by Mslvvn Douglas, will be occupying the 'house and must have absolute rest and quiet. The children decide to give Bullitt a lively reception. He is peppered with beans from a blowpun, and unearthly howling sounds outside his window while he is informed that the place is haunted. Eventually he discovers the plot and, when the young conspirators confess that they were trying to frighten him away, he suddenly becomes interested. Because he'has no interest in the scries of parties to which he will bo invited by his hostess, he agrees to a plan by which he will receive a telegram saying that a dear friend is seriously ill and asking him to come immediateb'. The scheme fails when Alice, becoming infatuated with the adventurous reporter, cannot bear to let him go away. The story continues in an amusing fashion with the romance between Alice and Bullitt, who is many years her senior. Edward Ludwig directed this New Universal production.
