Mr. H. Digby Smith, Commissioned of Pensions, returned south by the limited express last night. ' Mr. A. Pavitt, of the Reparations Department, Apia, Samoa, is at present on furlough in Auckland. Sir Walter Stringer, chairman of the War Pensions Appeal Board, left for Wellington last night by the limited express. Mr. J. Herrick. of Christchurch, general secretary of the United Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association, returned south last night by the limited express. Mr. R. J. Inkster, senior clerk at tho Christchurch post office, has been promoted to succeed Mr. S. R. Holmes as supervisor the mailroom at tho Palmerston North chief post office. Commander R. E. Hyde-Smith, who is to succeed Commander G. N. Loris. ton-Clarke in the command of the Imperial escort vessel Wellington, is due to arrive at Auckland by the Otranto on January 6Mr. W. E.
