MAINLY FAIR TO FINE moderate temperatures The weather report and forecast for New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows: —Slight westerly depressions continue to cross the Dominion, affecting chiefly the western and southern portions of the South Island, but pressure is gradually rising under the influence of an anti-cyclone, centred over Victoria and moving eastward. The forecast is for north-westerly winds predominating in Cook Strait and on parts / of the east coast, but otherwise west/ to south-west winds. Seas rather to rough about Cook Strait and rather rough at times south of Kawhia, otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: West to -south-west winds, moderate mainly, but strong in places; seas for the most part moderate, but with some rough patches. The weather is likely to be changeable and .'with passing showers in western and southern districts of the Soutlf Island, but later improving; elsewhere for,, the most part fair to fine, but with, some isolated local showers and possibly thunder. Temperatures moderate. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST GENERALLY FINE. The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to fresh west to south-west winds. The weather is likely to be generally fair to fiHe". but .an isolated shower or two probable. Temperatures moderate. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —The day was fine with a light to moderate south-west wind and the night was clear, the wind being light from the south-west. The maximum temperature was 72 degrees and the minimum 61 degrees. Barometric pressure had a rising tendency; Barometer midnight, steady .. 29.96 in, Midnight, "Wednesday .. 29.85 in. Wellington.—The day was fine and sunny, with a fresh north-westerly breeze and moderate temperatures, the maximum being 64.2 degrees. At 3.30 p.m. the barometer read 29.728 in. Christchurcli. —The weather was fine and sunny, with a fresh north-west breeze. The maxiinum%ernperature was 71.0 degrees. The barometer was steady and registered 29.58 in. at 5 p.m. Dunedin. —The weather this morning was fine, but showers fell in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 63 degrees and the barometer was rising in the afternoon at 29.65 in. There was a light breeze from the south.
