MANUFACTURE LICENSED MINISTER'S ANNOUNCEMENT [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] WELLINGTON, Thursday By a notice published in to-night's Gazette, the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, declares the industry of the manufacture of cigarette papers to be one subject to the licensing provisions of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936. For the purpose of licensing, the industry of the manufacture of cigarette papers is deemed to include the cutting or packing, or cutting and packing of paper wrappers for tobacco in the form of cigarettes with or without other processes, but apart from the manufacture of paper so cut and packed. "1 have declared this industry to be a licensed one," said Mr. Sullivan, in an interview, "for the purpose ot holding the present position as regards the number of units manufacturing cigarette papers in New Zealand until such time as the Bureau of Industry lias completed certain investigations regarding this industry in the Dominion.
"Those at present engaged in the industry are exempted under the notice from applying to the bureau for licences until January 1, 1940, or such earlier or later date as may bo decided. Meanwhile it will he necessary for any person contemplating the manufacture of cigarette papers to apply to the Bureau of Industry for a licence."
