DOMINION'S IMPORTS VALUE IN RECENT YEARS The extent of New Zealand's import trade in rubber tyres and tubes, the local manufacture of which the Government is considering, is shown by the latest statistics dealing with these imports. In 1936 imports of tyres and tubes were valued at £669,742. More than halt of the total came from the United Kingdom, Canada supplying the most of the balance. The details of the imports in that year were:— United Kingdom, £369,062; Canada, £261.807; Australia, £13,654; France, £2872; Italy, £56; Japan, £503; United States. £21.713; other countries, £75.

For the first nine months of the present year tliu imports of tyres for motor vehicles were valued at £577,741, as against £638,305 in the corresponding; period of last year.
