THEFT ON FARM

TEAMSTER GIVEN PROBATION The theft from a fellow-worker on a farm at Mount Roskill of an attache case containing clothing and a wallet full of money, of a total value of £33 18s 6d, was admitted by Trevor Hart, teamster, aged 21 (Mr. Aekins), when he was charged before Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. Acting-Detective-Sergeant Aplin said there was no reason for accused to steal. He had been employed on the farm for nine months at £3 a week, in addition to his keep. He had not previously been before the Court. Counsel said accused had been subjected to temptation through being shown the money, but ho could offer no explanation for his offence. If given a chance, he would get work in the bush. Accused was admitted to probation for 18 months.
