PUKEKOHE, Tuesday An incident at Mercer on October 8, when a motor-car ran off the road on to the footpath in the business area, knocking a Maori woman over, ! had a sequel in the Police Court yesterday, the driver of the car, Mina Eileen French, being fined £l, and costs, and her husband, £2 and costs. Mr. A. P. King, who appeared for Mr. and Mrs. French, explained that they were driving to Auckland from Hamilton. The wife was being taught how to drive in order that sne could obtain a licence and she was at the wheel with her husband alongside as they came into Mercer. - Counsel added that apparently some loose metal caused the car to skid in rounding the bend into the township, with the result that it ran on to the footpath and struck the Maori woman.
