HOSPITAL EXTENSION

RIGHTS OF LOCAL BODIES CONFERENCE SUGGESTED Support was accorded by the Otahuliu Borough Council on Monday to the views of the Takapuna Borough Council that no further hospital extension schemes should be undertaken without a conference being called of the contributing local authorities. The letter from the Takapuna council recommended that representations be made to the Minister of Health, the Hon. P. Fraser, urging him to convene and preside personally over a conference. The Mayor, Mr. C. R. Petrie, M.P., said it would probably be found that some extension scheme was necessary, but the local bodies should be acquainted with the details of the proposals. _ * The Mayor said it would be a forward more in amalgamation proposals if members of the Hospital Board were elected from the contributing local bodies. Personally, he considered it desirable that the members should ajso bo members of the councils and bodies that had to find the money. Something along those lines might also be discussed at any conference convened.
