PAYMENT FOR HOLIDAYS [llY TET.EORAIPH —PRKSS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Saturday In a reference to the question of payment of workers in clothing factories over the holiday period, Mr. Cookson. secretary of the Otago Employers' Association, stated this morning thiat it was incorrect that Otago manufacturers had approved a decision to pay, as mentioned in a.Christchurch telegram. Tho Christchurch message stated that Wellington, Canterbury and Otago manufacturers had approved decisions to grant paid holidays in addition to statutory holidays. Tho local view was that it was not valid to compromise on the award, and the Otago manufacturers had decided, on the assumption that the holidays commenced to accrue from the date of the award, to grant the portion accruing at Christmas—two and a-lialf days. The efFect of that was that the full holiday became due at Christmas, 193 I J. However, in view of these fresh developments, the Otago manufacturers will meet for a final decision on, Monday.
