CAMBRIDGE CLUB'S YEAR PROSPECTS FOR GOOD SEASON [from our own correspondent] CAMBRIDGE, Sunday The successful season enjoyed by the Cambridge Polo Club last year was reviewed at the 13rd annual meeting held in the Power Board Building. The main feature of the annual report was the healthy state of the finances, the balance-sheet showing a good credit. In view of the Saville Cup tournament at Claudelands, the difficulty of arranging the provincial tournament was solved by playing eliminating rounds at Matamata. The A team was fully extended to beat Matamata A by 5 goals to 4, and in tho final Cambridge A defeated Cambridge B, which had drawn the bye, by 8 goals to 3. Tho provincial final was played at Claudelands, when Cambridge A defeated Glen Murray by 1 goals to 2. In the Saville Cup, Cambridge A defeated Cambridge R, in the final. The earlier rounds resulted in the A team defeating Waimai A and Hawkc's Bay, Mile the B team accounted for Rangitikci and MUtamata A. The match between Cambridge A and Hawke's Bay was the outstanding one of the tournament. Altogether tho Cambridge Club entered four teams in the Dominion tournament, an achievement equalled on only one previous occasion in the history of the competition. The C and D teams, although eliminated in the first round of the junior and handicap cups, were by no means disgraced. Challenge cups were competed for during the season. The A team, after being defeated by Matamata for the Cameron Cup, regained the trophy later. The Homers Cup was won from "Waihou by a Cambridge team, tho | handicaps of the members heing 12 or under, j Congratulations were extended to Mess-s. K. Peakc, R. Nolan and L. R. Kay, who were selected to represent the Dominion in the team which travelled to Sydney and was , successful in bringing back the gold cup. Meredith and Mrs. H Griffith for their services to the clno over a long period of years by electing them life-members. They are Ihe first two life-members of the club. Mr. G. S. Browne was elected a playing member of the club, while Miss J. Mc.Govern, Messrs. G. A. James, A. McVicar nrul P. Skotisgaard were elected honorary members. In view of the fact that the club intends charging admission lor ci>|> matches, the i|iustion of public risk insurance was discussed. The secretary was instructed to investigate tho position. A handsome trophy, donaled by Mr. V. r . R. Edwards, was tabled at the meeting, it being stated tlipt the donor desired it lo be awarded to the most improved junior player in the club. It was decided to thank Mr. Edwards for his donation and interest in the sport. A scheme which met with favourable comment was detailed by Mr, K. Peake. He suggested that with membership at such strength, four teams could bo chosen, comprising senior and junior members, to compete in a club competition. It was decided to hold a series of games on these lines, the winners lo receive a set of polo sticks. Each team will comprise one member of the A, B, C and D teams.
