NEW DAKGAVILLE CLUB
—————— PRESENTATION CEREMONY HIGH IDEALS OF MOVEMENT [by telegraph OWN correspondent] DARGAVILLE, Sunday The ceremony of the presentation of a charter to tho Dargaville Rotary Club was carried out following a dinner in tho Municipal Chambers on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance, including visitors from Auckland and Whangarei. A welcome to tho visitors was extended by the vice-president, Mr. B. Berry, who expressed regret that the president, Mr. F. A. Jones, was unable to be present owing to illness. Congratulations to the members for bringing rotary into Dargaville, and to tho Whangarei members, who encouraged them in their work, were extended by Mr. W. E. Lowisham, president of tho Auckland Itotary Club. Mr. Lewisham said the functions of the Rotary Club commenced with effort, were followed by viewpoint and expression, and then by vocational, community and international service. Ho pointed out that the worth of this depended upon each member's expression and interpretation. Tho presentation of a charter was made by Mr. G. Hutchison', district governor, as representative of Rotary International. He conveyed the best wishes of Rotary International to members of the Dargaville Club, and said they were now linked with the international body, which operated throughout* 80 countries and had a membership of approximately 200,000. The objects of Rotary were explained by Mr. Hutchison, who emphasised its benefits to members.
Accepting tho charter, Mr. Berry said tho visit would help the young club in learning the principles of Rotary. The presentation of a jewel of office to the president of the new club was made on behalf of members of the Whangarei Club by the president, Mr. L<\ Griffon. A silver boll was also presented to the club by Mr. Lowisham on behalf of Auckland club members.
