/AUSTRALIAN VISIT LIKELY ■z ' ~ PROPOSALS FOR NEXT SEASON The possibility of a visit from .an Australian Soccer team next season was contained in a letter received at last night's meeting of the Auckland Football Association from Mr. S. A. Storey, chairman of the Australian Football Association. Expressing appreciation of the co-operation of the New Zealand Council in connection with the tour of New Zealand and Australia by the English amateur side in 1937, Mr. Storey, emphasised the value of both countries taking part in any visits from'overseas teams. The letter stated that Australia was for ft visit or either a Scottish ,or a Hungarian team next season. Should such visits not eventuate Mr. Storey intimated that he felt sure a short tour of JSew , Zealand could be arranged. Appreciation of the fine spirit "which had obtained between the association and H.M.S. Achilles during the latter's stay in Auckland was contained in a letter from Commodore I «. Glennie. ' „ . . ' The secretary, Mr. ,W. Harrison, reported that, in spite of a'large number of injuries, nil insurance claims bad been niet in full, and he read several letters of thanks from Fallowing a report that Mr, H. Bnswell, caretaker of Victoria Park, was resigning owing to ill-health, eulogistic references tfere made to his services to sport. It was decided to write accordingly. It was agreed to stage a Soccer tourney In conjunction with the Centenary celebrations -in August, 1940. . . ... A motion of sympathy was carried with Messrs. C. G and H. G. Walters in the loss of their brother.
