JEWISH REFUGEES
Sir, —Many people would like to know what the Government is doing in the cause of the refugee Jews. The matter is so desperately urgent that there should be no delay and apparent apathy while hundreds of victims of cruel persecution are needing speedy help for body and sold. Why is it so difficult to get permits for these Jews to come to New Zealand;'' We sadly'need a larger population in this country; it is vital to our welfare. Are we growing so selfish and so callous in our freedom and comfort that we do not stretch out arms of welcoming sympathy to those less fortunate than ourselves? Surely the Churches, the Government, the trade unions and the people with means will do something and at once. J.H.
