BOXING RING

GRAMMAR SCHOOL EVENTS MOUNT ALBERT CHAMPIONS The annual competitions of the Mount Albert Grammar School took place in the school hall on Thursday and Friday last. The standard of the 70 entrants was high, and many willing encounters took place. On the first day three one-minutes rounds were fought, there being 31 contests. In the heavier weights, C. E. Wolfgram hit hard and won by a technical knock-out, from R. Amoorej who had had a hard fight in a lower weight with J. D. Eudling. A. C. Thorn won a close contest over J. D. Rudling in the under 10 stone class. Thorn is a little ragged as a boxer, but certainly carries the fight to his opponent. K. B. Rogers and C. McLaren both impressed as capable boys under 9st. 31b. and the final between them was good. Under 8 stone, 0. G. Shaw won from R. B. Greening in the final after another close contest. The school was fortunate m having the kindly co-operation of the Auckland Boxing Association. Mr. G. Bush acted as referee and judge, and at the conclusion ( of the bouts complimented the school on the high standard displayed. He presented certificates to the winners. Mr. W. T. Harper is always active when it comes to school tournaments, his principal care being the ring and appointments, and the perfect order of the equipment spoke volumes for his hard work behind tho scenes. Other Auckland Boxing • Association officials who lent their ready aid were Messrs. A. B, Joplin, F. Home, R. W. Rugg, J. H. Sloan and H. Watts. Great credit for the notable improvement in the standard is duo to the honorary instructor, Mr. R. B. Hardv, a member of the staff of the school.
