COLLEGE CRICKET
PROMISING PLAYERS MOUNT ALBERT CHAMPIONS The Auckland secondary schools' 1938 cricket season was finalised recently, the winners being Mount Albert Grammar, which had victories over all the other schools. Mount Albert owed a, great deal of its success to the good captaincy of C. PI. Kingstone, who handled a strong bowling side very capably. Most of tho bowling was done byK. Hemns, H. ,J. Irvine and W. B. Harrison. Hemus, a slow right-hand off-spin howler, reveialed excellent control of length and flight, and when the wicket aided him, proved dangerous. His best performance was eight wickets lor 14 rims ngminst _ Auckland Grammar School, Which he followed up with six for 12 against King's College. Tho batting •was not as strong as the bowling, although occasionally Irvine, jjSherer, Kingstone, Hemus, Turner and Burgees made runs in a sound manner. The standard of secondary school cricket generally is not particularly 'high at present, and difficulty should be experienced in fielding a t powerful eleven to meet Sir Julien Cabn's touring side. 'Both at Auckland Grammar and Mount Albert Grammar the teams have been considerably weakened by bovs leaving school.' Tho best allrounder at Auckland Grammar is W. Smceton, while Sacred Heart College has a promising fast bowler in George. Technical College's' best player is Pike —a fair left-hand bowler. Takapuna Grammar has a fine bat and promising spin bowler in H. S. Mills, and another good batsman in Sutcliffe./
