I MAORI FINED £5 Stating that he had merely borrowed tho machino to use when looking for work, Tommy Taupe, a Maori labourer, aged 22, pleaded guilty in tho Police Court yesterday to a charge of stealing a bicycle valued at £5, the. property of another Maori, Ben Pifirama. Detective Lane produced a statement made by accused in which he said he had been to a tangi at Mangero and borrowed the cycle to ride to Ouelninga. He then used the machino while seeking work and went to Huntly. Accused was fined £5 by Mr. C. R. Or," Walker, S.M., in.default 11 days' imprisonment. 110 was allowed one month in which to pay the flno.
