METAL PRICES FALL EASIER TONE GENERALLY (Received November 29, 0 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 29 Sharp falls in metal prices had a depressing effect on the Stock Exchange to-day. Broken Hills fell to their lowest point for ninny weeks. Industrial shares were traded quietly with an easier tone. Sales included:—

COLONIAL SUGAR DIVIDEND INCOME TAX DEDUCTION Payment of the Colonial. Sugai; l?o----fining Company's interim dividend of 15s a. share in respect of shares held in the company as at November 2, 1938. will he made to-day. A portion equal to 24.9 per cent of the dividend is subject to New South Wales special income tax and this is deducted from the dividend payments. The deduction is calculated at lOd in the pound on the proportion subject to the tax. HUME STEEL, LIMITED L. " M . RECORD PROFIT EARNED The directors of Hume Steel,, Limited. Melbourne, have advised the Auckland Stock Exchange that the net profit for the year ended September .'lO ,was £41,702, after providing for taxation. The directors recommend a preference dividend for the half-year of 7 J per cent, per annum, payable, after the general meeting on December' 22. The profit is the largest made by the company, and compares with £40,312 last year and £B7OI in 1936. The preference dividend absorbs £7500. The ordinary shares are not listed.
