WOMAN'S APPOINTMENT,| WORK IN AUSTRALIA I ' '/ The appointment of Miss Christine Heinig as Federal education officer tinder the Commonwealth Government for the pre-school child development centres in all the capital cities of Australia, was recently announced. Previously Miss Heinig- had done invaluable .work in connection with the formation of the Australian Association for Preschool Child Development. - -ji; With the Commonwealth DirectorGeneral of Health Miss Heinig earlier in the year visited the different States in turn, following the Commonweallih Government's decision to establiiih model pre-school centres in each of the capital cities, to discuss the organisation of these centres. At present Muss Heinig is principal of the Free Kindergarten Training College in Melbourne and (before taking up her new post will yisit the United States to study the most recent developments in pre-school education. v

Her responsibility, in co-operatiijin ■with the Federal medical officer, will be the general supervision of all title State centres, in conjunction with tile Minister of Health. Miss Heinig, who is a graduate of Columbia University, New "York, went tg Melbourne from the United States more than two yea rs ago. •' .
