ROAD IMPROVEMENT

TAUPO TO WAIRAKEI REMOVING DUST NUISANCE TAR-SEALING COMMENCED [BY TKLKGIIAI'H —OWN' CORKESPONDKNT] TAUPO, Sunday Many complaints regarding the serious dust nuisance were received last year from motorists using the road between Taupo and W T airakei, on the main highway between Taupo and Rotorua. In the height of the tourist season this road carries,an; extraordinarily largo volume of motor traffic of all kinds. Most drivers realise the grave danger of attempting to pass other traffic in a dust-cloud, but unfortunately there are ai number of drivers who ignore this danger. The Public Woirks Department, in an endeavour to improve road safety, has a large staff of men at present engaged on the preparatory work of tarsealing two sections of the road between Taupo and Wairakei. One section is two and a-half miles long, commencing one mile from Taupo, while the other is 10 chains in length, in front of the Wairakei Hotel. It is intended to complete these two sections as soon as possible. When this is done the dust menace will be removed.
