DEATH OF BATHER

YOUNG WOMAN VICTIM TWO WOUNDS IN BODY STINGRAY SUSPECTED THAMES COAST FATALITY [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] THAMES, Sunday Believed to have been injured by the sting of a stingray, while bathing at tho Thames coast near Tapu this afternoon, a young woman received fatal injuries. The victim was: — Miss Jessie Merle Laing, aged 18, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Laing, of Waitakaruru.

When Miss Laing was assisted from the water she was found to be suffering from two wounds, one on tho thigh and the other, much deeper, on tho chest.

A passing motorist took Miss Laing to the Thames Hospital, which is about 10 miles distant, but she died on the way. , A post-mortem examination will be held to ascertain the cause of death.

People present at the time of the accident state that they saw the fin of a fish above tho surface of tho water.
