PRICES AT SMITHFIELD STEADY LAMB MARKET' CHILLED BEEF FIRM A steady market is ruling for lambs at'Smithfiold. The weekly report of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board states that there is.a little better demand owing to an easing in the supply of home-killed stocks. Tyade in wethers and ewes continues dull, with prices slightly easier. Frozen beef is steady and unchanged. Chilled beef is firm, with good trade. Light-weight New Zealand porker pigs are a shade firmer, owing to a shortage of supplies. Others are unchanged. The tendency for Now Zealand baconer pigs is easier, owing to low* prices of Continental bacon. Tho weekly quotations aro based on actual sales of wholesale quantities of carcases of mutton or lamb or of quarters of beef delivered to Sniithfield market and/or London stores. In the case of chilled beef, the rates represent the approximate average prices realised for the week at per lb. _ To arrive at the equivalent ex ship values one farthing per pound should be deducted from the prices quoted above. Quotations given represent the averago for the week, and are not selected lines, , but for parcels fairly representative of tho bulk of shipments now on offer. TRADE SI.OW IN WETHERS EWES QUIET AND UNCHANGED The Bank of New Zealand lias received the following advice from its London office as at the close of business last week:—-Wethers: Irade is slow. Ewes: The market is quiet and unchanged. Lambs: The market is steadv and no material change is expected yet. Quotations:— Wethers light. 4Jd to 43d per lb,; heavy 3Jd to 4id. Ewes. 2}d to 3d. Lambs, twos, 73d to 8d; eights 7|d to /2d; fours* 7jd to 7id; seconds. 6Jd to b*d.
