GOLF CONTESTS

MIDDLEMOKE CLOSING PRESENTATION OF PRIZES MIXED BOGEY FOURSOMES The Auckland Golf Club brought its winter season to a close on Saturday, when about 100 players took part in a mixed bogey foursomes. Members and friends wore the guests of the president, Mr. H. I'. Richmond, at afternoon ten, after which Mrs, Richmond presented the prizes won during the year. The best scores returned in the closing foursomes were;—J. F. Brown and Mrs. Brown, all square; E. L. Barlleet and Mrs. Bartlcet, R. D. Horton and Miss M. Savage, C. T. Irvine and Mrs. Henderson. T. R. Brett and Mrs. iiaiph, J. h. McCoy and Mrs. Hamilton, J. p. May and Mrs. F, Mucky, I down; ifl. B. Lusk and Miss N. Noakes, 11. P. Williams and Mrs. Bins;, 11. W. Scion and Miss B. Nolan, 2 down; H. L. Rces and Mrs. J. M. Wilson, B. G. Rainger and Mrs. Rainirer. R. D. Wright and Mrs. Wright, H. B. Kirker and Mrs. J. J. Kingston, A. E. M. Rhind and Mrs. B. Finn, 3 down. Prior to the presentation of the prizes won during the season, the president. Mr. H. P. Richmond, referred to the great loss which had been sustained by the club thromrh the death of Mr. A. M. Howdcn. The late Mr. Howdcn had been a member of the club for a number of years and was .captain for a short period. He had proved himself a fine sportsman in both cricket and golf and he would always be remembered as a good modest winner and a cheerful loser. As a - tribute to the memory of the late Mr. Howdcn, the members stood in silence for a few minutes.

The president made eulogistic reference to the work of the secretary, Mr. R, L. McNiven, and the assistant secretary, Mrs. A. R. Abbott. He also stated that the management of the club was in good hands, making special reference to the able manner in which the captain, Mr. V. E. Masters, had .handled the affairs of the club. Mr. Richmond concluded by making an appeal to members to assist in beautifying the course and lie congratulated the winners of the various competitions. Mrs. Richmond then presented the prizes, the principal winners being:—club championship. G. W. S. Williams; runner-up, P. C- Savage: intermediate championship. R. H. Gyllies; runner-up, 13. B. Armstrong; junior championship, A. S. Gray; runner-uo. A. G. Poison; C grade tourney. W K. Lewis; ruaner-up, W. A. Taaffc; Bloomfield Bowl, W. St.G. R. Wilson; Burns Memorial, K. M. Wilson: captain's tourney. R. A. Wilson; George Cup. G. C. Henderson; president's foursome, C. H. Archer and J. L. McCoy.
