RECORD VOYAGE
WAIMARAMA'S TRIP LIVERPOOL TO AUCKLAND 27 DAYS' STEAMING TIME A record passage from Liverpool to Auckland for a fully loaded vessel was made by the Shaw, Savill and Albion motor-ship Waimarama on her maiden voyage, her actual steaming time being 27 days 8 hours. The passage is made the more remarkable as she was steamed at reduced speed to allow her engines to be run in. The Waimarama, which travelled via Curacao and Panama, is at present discharging a heavy cargo at Prince's Wharf. The first of the company's fleet to have double-acting engines, she had a mean average speed of 20 knots on her trials. On the outward voyage her averago speed was nearly 18 knots. Accommodation for 12 passengers is available in the Waimarama, which was fully booked for her maiden foyage. One passenger from Liverpool connected with tho Awatea at Auckland a few hours after the Waimarama reached port and arrived at Sydney yesterday morning, having completed the journey in exactly 30 days 22 hours from the time of embarkation Liverpool. It is considered that this is a record for a passenget journey to Australia, via Panama.
