COLD CHANGE LATER . MODERATE TO STRONG WINDS The weather report and forecast* for New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows: —An anti-cyclone is centred to the east of the* North Island, while a deep trough of low pressure lies across Canterbury and extends north-west-ward over the Tasman Sea. The forecast is for winds, moderate to strong in force, generally southerly over the southern half of the South Island, otherwise northerly, but southerlies or south-easterlies advancing to beyond Cook Strait. Seas rough about Cook Strait and south of Cape Egmont, rising on the east coast of the South Island, otherwise moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Northerly to north-west-erly winds in the central .and northern portions, elsewhere so v iftborly, and southerlies or south-easterlies later becoming general. Winds strong in the central portion with rough confused seas, otherwise moderate in force with moderate seas. The weather is likely to he fair to cloudy in the northern and eastern districts of the North Island, elsewhere unsettled with rain at times, heavy in places in central districts. Snow is likely on the high levels of the South Island. Temperatures warm in the north; but a cold ; change advancing from the south. SPECIAL AUC3SLAND FORECAST FAIR, WARM TEMPERATURES The Government meteorologist issued to the Hehaj-d last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to fresh northeasterly to northerly winds, possibly changing to southerly by Saturday night. The weather is. likely to be fair and warm. Seas moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland.—The weather yesterday was generally sunny, with a fresh northerly wind. Showers fell early last evening, the wind being light from the north. Temperatures were warm, the maximum being 74 degrees- and the minimum 64 degrees. Barometric pressure was fairly steady. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.02 in. Midnight, Thursday .. .. 30.02 in. Wellington.—The sky was dull and threatening all day, with a high north-west wind. Light rain fell on Thursday night, but there was no further rain to-day. At 3..'W p.m. the temperature was 60.1 degrees and the barometer stood at 29.820 in. Chris tchurch. —The day was extremely warm, the maximum temperature being 80.20 degrees. A fresh north-west breeze gathered strength in the afternoon and by five o'clock had backed to the south, bringing a scatter of rain and a quick fall of temperature. The morning was mainly sunny, but the sky was overcast in the afternoon., The barometer at 3 p.m. was at 29.447 in. and almost steady. Dunedin. —The morning was fine but : for some hours alter mfa-day there was steady rain. Conditions improved toward evening, when the barometer stood at 29.67 in, and was rising.
