"GEYSER" AT TE AROHA

SPECTACULAR DISPLAYS SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENTS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TE AROHA, Friday Experiments with the new which it is hoped to make a feature of the Te Aroha Tourist Domain are arousing interest. The fixing of a 2in. nozzle to the bore has resulted in the boiling water being thrown to a height of .30ft., twice as high as previously. The surge occurs regularly every 12 minutes. Every third shot is more powerful than the others and lasts twicte as long, giving a higher stream of water. The effect is enhanced by the fact that the water, on reaching a certain height, fans out, and in falling is caught again by the column until it descends in umbrella shape to the ground. Clouds of steam add to the general effect. Several names ffor the "geyser" have been suggested, the most favoured being Mokena, after the Maori chief who originally owned the domain and handed it over as a national asset.
