OLD BOYS' GATHERING i ■ ■■ 4 • ! SACRED HEART FUNCTION l - COMMEMORATION DAY ; Past pupils of Sacred Heart College ' gathered at the collego yesterday for the annual commemoration day celebration. The day was opened with tho celebration of Mass for deceased old boys and teachers of the college by the Rev. Father A. Price, a former pupil, who is a missionary priest in the Philippines. The sermon was preached by tho Rev. Father J. McCarthy, the college chaplain. > After the -Mass the reunion breakfast was held in the collego refectory, the director of Sacred Heart College, the Rev. Brother Borgia, presiding over a largo attendance. The Old Boys' Association was congratulated by Brother Borgia for the loyalty it had shown to the school and tho Brothers. Thanks to the Old Boys' Association for tho support it had accorded tho school wore expressed by the Rev. Brother Leonard in proposing the toast of the. association. Former pupils of the college had distinguished themselves in professional life and by their scholastic attainments, he said, whilo excellent service was being rendered by former pupils as members of the Auckland Catholic University Students' Association. Ordinations to Priesthood "The Brothers take a special pride in recalling that, during the past year, four more old boys liavo been ordained to the priesthood," said Brother Leonard. "Many others axe well advanced in their preparation for tho priesthood. Two others have been professed as Marist Brothers.". * The fact that-so many old boys had distinguished themselves, not only in the Dominion, but in universities overseas, was a tribute to tho teaching of the Brothers, said Mr. J. Carroll, in returning thanks on behalf of the association. The toast of the visitors was proposed by Mr. W. Haro and responded to by Mr. Justice Callan and Mr. G. F. Joseph. . At the annual meeting, which was held later in tho day, Mr. J. McD. Coleman was elected president for the third term. Mr. N. C. Sneddon referred to tho generosity with which Mr. Coleman had devoted himself to the interests of tho association and the college. Mr. M. Flynn was elected a life member of the association. Successful Year Eeviewed A successful year was reviewed in tho annual report, which referred to the success achieved by members in the. scholastic sphere. Many others had also gained prominence in tho athletic world/ three Dominion titles having been annexed by old boys of tho college. - •• The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Bishop Liston; vicepatrons, the' Provincial, the Rev. Brother Bcnignys, and the Rev. Brother Borgia; president, Mr. J. McD. Coleman; secretary, Mr. j. 11. Molloy; joint-secretary, the Rev. Brother Clemens; assistant secretary, Mr. R. McDonald; treasurer, Mr. E.C. Kelly; auditor, Mr. F. Sweeny; chaplain* the Rev. Dr. L. T. Buxton: executive, Dr. D. O'Brien, Messrs. P. Hackett, D. Rennie, P. Scholium, J. Blake-Kelly, J. P. Molloy,.
