WIGRAM DEVELOPMENTS MORE LIVING QUARTERS EXTENSIVE .WORK PLANNED [by TELEGRAM —OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday Further extensive development at Wigram aerodrome, Christchurch, is foreshadowed in contracts for the construction of temporary hangars, dormitory blocks, and an additional underground petrol tank, which are being let by the Public Works Department. The Minister for Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, said in response to an inquiry that the new temporary wooden hangars would be used for housing Territorial Air Force machines and for the storage of some of the additional aircraft that wero being acquired from tho Imperial authorities. Tho new hangar accommodation will "consist of a double unit hangar and annexe, 265 ft. long by 153 ft. wide, providing approximately two and a-half times tho floor space of each of the oxisting concrete hangars. Tenders for this contract will close on November 29. Tenders have closed recently for tho extension of tho existing single men's accommodation at Wigram aerodrome, and this will enable some 50 additional men to be housed. A contract will also bo let for the construction of a dormitory block for the accommodation of another 80 men. Tho new underground petrol tank, tenders for the fabrication, delivery and assembly of which closed this month, will provide storage for 11,000 gallons of petrol.
