MIO'DAY SERVICE DECLINED A request from tho Papakura Borough Council to the Railway Department to extend the running of tho 12.10 p.m. Auckland-Manurewa tram to Papakura was declined in a letter from the District Traffic Manager, Mr. H C. Couch, received at a council meeting last evening. This extension would cause inconvenience, through the later arrival of the train back in Auckland, tho letter stated. If tho train left Auckland earlier to run to Papakura j,t would inconvenience numerous passengers travelling to their homes in the lunch hour. . The Mayor, Mr. S. Evans, expressed tho hopo that tho department would later bo able to put on a mid-day train from Auckland to Papakura, to fill tho long gap between the present 11 a.m. and "1 p.m. trains.
