NATIONAL DANCING
IRISH SOCIETY'S CONTESTS The Irish National Society conducted its annuiil traditional Irish' step-dancing competitions this week, when additional dances, including: an Irish open hornpipe and an open leel, were contested. The standard was high and the official judge was faced with a hard task. A feature of this year's competition was the large number of entries received from boys, who gave promise of attaining tlic high standard set by the girls. The results were as follows: Irish Jig, single, girls under 11 years.— S. Elliott, 1; G. 0 Leary, 2; J. Ekman, 3. Irish Jig, double, under 14 years.—D. Curran, 1; G. O'Leary, 2; M. Cavunagh, 3. Irish Hornpipe, under 11 years. M. Allpress, 1; J. Ekman, 2; M. O'Shea, 3. Irish Hornpipe, under 14 years.—N. Dunn, lj J. Peterkin, 2; N. Clarke. 3. Irish Hornpipe, open.—M. Allpress, 1; E. Peterkin, •_>; E. Atkins 3. A special prize was awarded to A, Gill. Irish Reel. open.—E. Peterkin, .1; S. Elliott. 2; G. O'Leary, 3. A special prize was awarded to D. Curran. Irish Jig, boys.—P. O'Leary, 1; K. Catanagh, 2; jjL Powell, 3. A special prize wai awarded to C. Powell.
