HAURAKI COUNTY RATES
ORDERS NOT OBSERVED [by TKLEGRAPH OWN CO It RESPONDENT ] THAMES, Wednesday A report regarding rates remitted by the Adjustment Commission which recently sat in Thames was presented to the Hauraki Plains County Council by the county clerk, Mr. E. Mahoney, at its monthly meeting to-day. He stated that in a number of cases, although substantial remission had been made by the commission, even the payments ordered had not been observed. Mr. Halo said that a strong letter should be sent to the commission pointing out that the negligent ratepayers had had big concessions and that the orders of the commission were not being observed. Other councillors said that while it was to be regretted that those to whom concessions had been made were not paying their rates as ordered it had to be' recognised that the matter of noncompliance was now out of the hands of the commissioners and it rested with the council to enforce payment. The clerk was authorised to take the necessary action.
