WAIKATO MAORI HOSTEL
RAISING FURTHER FUNDS HOPES OF ERECTION NEXT YEAR [from otjb own correspondent] HAMILTON, Monday A statement that a net profit of '£325 had been made at the garden party at Ngaruawahia on Saturday in aid of the Waikato Maori hostel fund ,was made by Dr. H. B. Turbott, district health officer, at the Hamilton Rotary Club's luncheon to-day. Dr. Turbott said this Maori effort was being supplemented by a circular in which Princess Te Puea was inviting every Maori adult in the district to contribute 8s a head toward the fund. Dr. Turbott said he would like to nee the Europeans of the district assist the fund. He suggested that 25 members of the Rotary Club should undertake to find £lO each and hand the money in before the end of November. iHe would also like to see contributions made, by the European settlers of tho counties surrounding Hamilton. By the end of November he hoped !£IOOO or more would be available. Application would then be made for a £1 for £1 Government subsidy, and it was hoped that the hostel would be built »e;ct year.
