PERCENTAGE OF 92.85 RECORD FIGURE REACHED PRELIMINARY CALCULATIONS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON. Thursday Preliminary calculations, which ar© subject to meticulous checking before confirmation, show the percentage of votes cast at the general election to the total effective roll to be 92.85, a record figure. The total roll was 995,199. The number of valid votes was 917,689 and informal votes 6396, so that the nonvoters total 71,115. The previous highest percentage was 90.92, in 1925, when compulsory registration was introduced. In 1935 the percentage was 90.75. • In New South Wales, where compulsory registration and compulsory voting obtain, the percentage is higher than in New Zealand, ; and that last March was 95.78.
