With tho exception of beef, prices for all classes of cattle were decidedly easier at the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited's, sale at Mangawhare. Lines of steers wero again disappointing with regard to value, due no doubt to the prolonged dry weather, but with rates prevailing in otheir centres. One and twoyear steers, especially plain lots, were dull of sale, but well fattened cows and heifers sold under keen competition. Small and backward heifers were dull of sale. THE MARKET BASKET DROP IN SPRING LAMB FRUIT GENERALLY DEARER Prices for new season's spring lamb have decreased Id per lb. all round on last week's values. On account of a drop in export prices, values for mutton have also been lowered Id per lb., these latter ratesi to take effect from next Monday. Gooseberries, at Is 2d per lb., and strawberries, at 2s to 3s • a chip, are in the shops and are reported to be of good quality.
