LOCKE ~ BEATS HORNABROOK SOUTH AFRICAN'S FINE PLAY [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION'] MASTERTON, Tuesday There was a dramatic finish to tho exhibition golf match played at the Landsdowne liuks to-day between Bobby Locke, the touring South African, and John Hornabrook, New Zealand open champion. At tho 14th Locke, who had dominated play throughout, stood 3 up, but then tho Masterton amateur staged a great recovery. lie took tho next two holes with birdie threes, and equalised matters at the 17th when he sank a 30ft. putt. Locke, who played like a machine, was within 10ft. of the pin with his second at tho 18th, and lio holed out. to take tho match, 1 up. Both men played brilliant golf on good, but difficult, greens. The South African was coolness and confidence personified, and his only serious mistake of tho match was at the 17th, when ho missed a 4ft. putt. Locke did the 18 holes in 68, ono stroke better than Sarazen's effort over the same course last year. Hornabrook took 70.
