GRIGG'S MAJORITY FINAL STATE OF PARTIES [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] ASHBURTON, Wednesday With one absent vote to be dealt with, the position in the Mid-Can-terbury electorate is that Mr. A. N. Grigg (National) has been elected by a majority of 75 votes over the sitting Government member, Mr. H. E. Herring. The figures are as follows: — Grigg 5504 Herring 5429 Majority for Grigg . . 75 Informal 36 The declaration, absentee and postal votes were cast as follows: —Declaration: Grigg, 2; Herring, 4. Absentee: Grigg, 257; Herring, 263. Postal: Grigg, 119; Herring, 96. On the night of the poll. Mr. Grigg had a majority of 48 votes. Broadfoot (National) a majority of 329, a reduction of 16 votes on the previous figures, over Mr. J. Jones (Government). The final figures are as follows: — Broadfoot 4858 Jones 4529 Majority for Broadfoot 329 Informal 43 A total of 493 absentee votes, 118 postal votes and nine declaration votes was allowed. Mr. Jones received 314 and Mr. Broadfoot 302. while four were informal.
