CRICKET TOUR

VISIT TO DOMINION SIR J. CAHN'S TEAM INCLUSION OF DEMPSTER FOUR AUSTRALIAN PLAYERS LONDON, Oct. 25 Sir Julian "Cahn's cricket team, which is to leave for New Zealand early in 19119, will comprise:— C. S. Dempster (New Zealand and Leicestershire). V. Jackson (New South Wales). J. G. Lush (Now South Wales). H. Mudge (New South Wales). J. Walsh (New South Wales). J. Hardstafl' (Nottingham). A. H. Dyson (Glamorgan). J. Goodway (Nottingham). C. R. Maxwell (Nottingham). N. Oldfield (Lancashire). W. E. Phillipson (Lancashire). P. Smith (Essex). E. A. Watts (Surrey). W. E. A still, scorer (Leicestershire).

Sir Julien Cahn's side will plav nine matches in the Dominion, including a game against New Zealand at Wellington, and provincial fixtures in each of the other three centres. The tour will open with a match against a combined North Island colleges' team at Auckland on February 11, and will conclude with a game against the Auckland provincial side at Eden Park on March 17, 18 and 20. Recognised as one of the most enthusiastic cricketers in England, Sir Julien Cahn has gained a reputation for organising tours by powerful teams comprising a number of players of international fame. He has taken teams to Jamaica. Argentina, Denmark, Jutland, Canada, Bermuda and Ceylon. Great interest will centre in the reappearance in the Dominion of C. S. Dempster, the former Wellington _ and New Zealand representative, who is at present captain of the Leicestershire county eleven. Ever since accepting a professional engagement in England, Dempster has shown remarkable consistency with the bat and almost invariably is near the top when the final averages for tho English season are compiled. The former Australian players, Jackson, Lush, Mudge and Walsh, all of whom are now playing in England, will also be very welcome visitors. Lush earned a fine as a fast bowler in Sheffield Shield cricket and was a candidate for the Australian eleven, while Mudge was at one time looked upon as a successor to C. V. Grimmett. Jackson is a brilliant young all-rounder. Hardstaff will be making his third visit to New Zealand. Ho „was here with E. R. T. Holmes' side, and later toured the Dominion in G. O. Allen's test team. Oldfield, Phillipson, Smith and Watts are all promising batsmen, the last-named also having had considerable success as a fast bowler. AUSTRALIAN CAPTAIN BRADMAN AT FREMANTLE NOT RETURNING TO ENGLAND FREMANTLE, Oct. 28 The Orontes has arrived at Fremantle from London, her passengers including the Australian cricket team's captain Don Br adman, who said there was absolutely no chance of his accepting offers to return to England. Bradman added that the next English team to visit Australia would be much stronger than the last, and Australia would find it hard to hold the Ashes.
