GIRLS' SPORTS

MEETING NEXT SATURDAY The annual sports of the Auckland "Girls' Athletic Association will be staged next Saturday at Carlaw Park. -The meeting has been worked for with much enthusiasm by the 400 girls of which the 21 teams consist. Younger and inexperienced athletes will be taking part with the more experienced girls, and have spent much time and strenuous practice in preparing for the day. Two sections provide for the teams of longer standing in th& association and for those which are new. These sections are for the team and single events only and cups and trophies are awarded for the highest points in each of these, as well as the highest aggregate points. In drill and marching the old teams have no advantage over the new, which sometimes take the first and second prizes. The preliminary judging of tne drill will take place in the Drill Hall to-day, the judges being Mesdames Nicoll, Morris, Bullock and Miss Leys. Mr. ■K. C. Reid, of the Teachers' Training College, is directqr of the drill and marching, and Miss McNichol, St. Cuthbert's College, will direct the games. Dr. W. S. Dale, Messrs. W. A. Elsby and C. N. Nicholls are acting as stewards and students from the Training College will be referees.
