INCREASE IN CABGO HIGH TONNAGE FOR YEAR SMALLER TOTAL OF EXPORTS Cargo handled at the port of Auckland during the year ended September 30 totalled 2.251,754 tons, an increase of 114,219 tons compared with the previous 12 months, according to a report presented to the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday by tho traffic manager, Mr. \\. R. Golden. Inward cargo last year amounted to 1,660,736 tons, an increase of 130,131 tons; transhipments to 66,688 tons, a decrease of 6'.'06 tons; and outward cargo to 524.330 tons, a decline of 9006 tons. Of the total cargo handled, coastal amounted to 821,016 tons, a decrease of 1952 tons, and overseas to 1.427,708 tons, an increase of 116,171 tons. Figures for the port of Onchunga, however, showed a decline of 1077 tons in tho total amount of cargo, which was 50,989 tons. Outward cargo increased by 1267 tons, but there was a decrease of 2344 tons in inward cargo. Inward coastal cargo at Auckland last month increased by 635 tons, and inward overseas by 22,251 tons, compared with September, 1937. Iranshipments, however, declined by 1244 tons, and outward coastal cargo by 309 tons. Outward overseas cargo increased bv 1227 tons.

Passengers arriving at Auckland from overseas last month totalled 1583, an increase of 217 compared with September, 1937, and tho departures 1209, an increase of 287.
